What are Botox®and Fillers?
Botox® and fillers are both injectable treatments, but they are formulated in different ways. Botox® is known as a neurotoxin, and it contains botulinum toxin type A. It works by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles to prevent the creation of dynamic lines. The most common areas treated with Botox® include the forehead, crow’s feet, and between the eyebrows.
Fillers, on the other hand, are injectable treatments that commonly contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that plumps the skin. Fillers can be injected to smooth lines and wrinkles, restore volume in the mid-face and chin, and augment the lips.
Who is a Candidate for Botox®and Fillers?
Healthy individuals who are looking to non-surgically combat signs of aging or improve the proportions of their face can often benefit from Botox® and/or fillers. However, you should not receive these treatments if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning on becoming pregnant, or have a bleeding disorder. To determine if you are a good candidate, contact VitaLab today to schedule a consultation appointment with a clinician.
The Treatment
To begin your Botox® or filler treatment, your licensed clinician will first discuss with you what you are hoping to accomplish and what you can expect. Then, they will cleanse your skin and mark where injections will be placed. A topical numbing cream and/or ice will also be offered to ensure you are comfortable during treatment. Then, a fine needle will be used to inject the Botox® or filler into the appropriate areas. Treatment time will vary depending on the product choice and the size of the treatment area and may range from 15 minutes to one hour.
Recovery
Following your Botox® or filler treatment, there is no downtime, so you can return to your regular activities as soon as you wish. However, you may experience temporary swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness at the injection site(s), which will resolve with time. For the best possible results, we recommend avoiding strenuous activities and exercise, as well as alcohol consumption for 12-24 hours after treatment.
While filler results are often seen immediately after treatment, Botox® results can take up to two weeks to become apparent. The results of fillers can last from six months to two years depending on the formula, while Botox® results can last from 3-6 months.
