DECIDING IF BOTOX OR DYSPORT IS RIGHT FOR YOU

Botox and Dysport are two of the most common procedures used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Both nonsurgical cosmetic treatments guarantee quick recovery and no downtime. But how do you know which is right for you? Let’s take a look at both injectables to help you decide.

WHAT IS DYSPORT?

Dysport is a neuromodulator injectable primarily made of botulinum toxin A. It’s a temporary treatment that’s very effective at reducing wrinkles by relaxing the muscles under your skin. Relaxing the glabellar muscles reduces the appearance of lines in the space between your eyebrows and gives you a more youthful appearance. While Dysport is FDA-approved for the lines between the eyebrows, it can be used for other areas of the face as well. The results will start to show after a few days, but the full results can take up to two weeks to show up. The treatment typically lasts four months.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

Unlike Dysport, Botox is FDA-approved for treating more than just glabellar lines. It treats forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, leaving you with younger-looking skin on your face. Your ideal dosage will depend on the treatment area and your desired results. You may start to notice the results in 2-4 days but the final results can take a few weeks to appear. The results last about 3-4 months.

WHICH OPTION IS MORE EFFECTIVE?

Dysport and Botox are effective cosmetic injections that guarantee results relatively quickly. They work about the same, but because Dysport is more dilute and spreads more than Botox, it may be used on larger areas. Which one is right for you depends on what your provider recommends, what your concerns are, your medical history, and your personal preference.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

There are some minor side effects from using Botox and Dysport, but they are relatively rare. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, most minor side effects resolve days after the procedure.

For Dysport, you may expect the following:

  • Headaches
  • Skin irritation
  • Swelling around the eyelids
  • Minor pain at the injection site

Botox side effects include the following:

  • Swelling
  • Numbness
  • Headache
  • Redness
  • Slight pain at the injection site
  • Bruising
