Innovation in anti-aging and regenerative medicine gets more exciting by the day, but not every novel therapy gets true results. Measuring results and knowing objectively what outcomes patients can expect has always driven Dr. Erica’s choice of therapies. The Regenerative Research Institute continues this commitment by conducting research on some of the most cutting edge, promising, yet experimental therapies and making participation in such research accessible to eligible people. We focus on clinical research studies that advance the paradigm of medicine in brain health and longevity.
At the risk of stating the obvious, senescence, or age-related decline, is the cumulative effect of living. In 2021, the host of insults to our health includes pollution, toxins in our food & water, nutrient-poor foods, stress & poor sleep, sedentary lifestyles revolving around blue-light emitting devices, climate change, and many more. As a consequence of these exposures, cells are damaged and no longer function efficiently yet use up nutritional resources and take up space. Typically, decline is insidious. Brain fog, disrupted sleep, memory lapses accumulate and we often can’t recall what clarity and abundant energy feel like. By the time we notice, we’ve gotten “old”!
Regenerative medicine represents a paradigm shift away from the disease & drug-focused approach of conventional medicine toward an approach that heals, regenerates, and restores functionality to that of our younger brain & body. The implications of reversing, or even delaying the progression of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, and cardiovascular disease are enormous. Not to mention, the impact of enabling individuals to work and lead at the top of their game for an additional decade, or more! One of the challenges in emerging medicine is to separate the hype from the science. Even when scientific mechanisms are solid, the research base may still be developing and largely pre-clinical. Yet, my decade-long career in NIH-funded clinical research taught me another peril of the medical research agenda – it is painfully slow and extraordinarily expensive.
In 2020, it cost an average of $1.3 billion to bring a drug to market and over 10 years. What are today’s doctors and patients supposed to do when losing 10 years of function and vitality is not acceptable? This is what motivates the Regenerative Research Institute.Currently, the Regenerative Research Institute is home to IRB-approved research in the areas of plasmaphoresis, young plasma, and exosomes. All of these approaches have existing support in the research literature regarding their safety and promise for regenerative outcomes and anti-aging. However, they are still experimental. People who would like to try these therapies, and meet eligibility criteria, can contribute towards advancing scientific knowledge by participating in these studies. To learn more, schedule a consultation with Dr. Erica or one of the study physicians.
