What is Microneedling?
Do you feel that your skin is looking dull, or you are bothered by the appearance of skin concerns? If so, microneedling may be an effective option for you. Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure performed to address a number of skin concerns, including hyperpigmentation, large pores, acne, scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damage. It utilizes a special tool that creates micro-wounds in your skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production, which are powerful building blocks for healthy, evenly toned, and youthful-looking skin.
Who is a Candidate for Microneedling?
Ideal candidates are in good health and wish to improve the appearance of certain skin concerns that have not responded to other treatment options. However, you may not be a candidate if you are pregnant, have psoriasis or eczema in the treatment area, or have had a history of keloid scarring. If you would like to learn more about this procedure and if it is right for your skin goals, contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment with one of our aesthetic clinicians.
During the microneedling procedure, your skin will be cleansed, and a topical anesthetic applied to ensure that you are comfortable during treatment. Then, a special pen-like tool containing small needles will be moved across the treatment area, creating micro-wounds in the skin. This process will stimulate collagen and elastin production for skin rejuvenation benefits. A serum or calming treatment will then be applied to soothe the skin. Overall treatment time will vary depending on the size of the targeted area.
There is minimal downtime associated with microneedling. Redness, swelling, and inflammation are expected following your treatment, which should peak after 2-3 days and then resolve over time. While you may be asked to avoid strenuous activities for the first few days following treatment, most people can return to work as soon as they feel comfortable. Most patients will experience some skin flaking and peeling about three days after treatment – this is a sign of new skin generating under the old layer. Improvements in skin tone and texture are apparent after 2-3 weeks. Most people require 4-6 microneedling treatment sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart for the best results.
